The overall goal of the OHCHR Library is to provide quality information and knowledge services on human rights in support of OHCHR work and to serve as an information and knowledge gateway for the public at large.
But The OHCHR Library offers a rich collection of materials, ranging from UN publications and voting records of the Human Rights Council to resources on human rights education, the protection of defenders, and multilingual translations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and more.
Curated to support the work of the UN Human Rights Office and open to all, the library is a valuable gateway for research, advocacy, and learning. Finding the actual documents that contain these international human rights standards can be a challenge. Currently, there isn’t any centralised database that compiles them all in one place.
The OHCHR Library provides services to:
- OHCHR staff members and consultants at Headquarters and in field duty stations
- UN human rights mechanisms
- OHCHR interns
- Members of the UN Member States’ delegates, NGOs, intergovernmental organisations, etc.
Presently, only holders of a valid UN official badge can access the Library upon presenting the badge to the Security officer at the entrance to the Palais Wilson.
Members of the general public interested in human rights can access the library and consult the library resources on the premises. They do not have borrowing rights.
